Herb Yost - Marshall Athletic Director-1962-1982

Herb Yost was Marshall High School's first Athletic Director. His first day on the job was December 7, 1962, the first day that Marshall opened its doors to students. He served the Marshall athletic program for 20 more years, until November 1982. His personal sports background includes playing football at Hampden-Sydney in 1948 and at West Virginia University in 1949. He passed away on 25 September 2017, but left a wonderful legacy at George C. Marshall High School and McLean High School.

(Obiturary) Herbert "Pete" Pentoney Yost, 88, a resident of Sunnyside Retirement Community went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 25, 2017. He was born on April 25, 1929 in Morgan County, WV and was the son of the late Peter C. and Nettie E. Pentoney Yost.
Pete graduated from West Virginia University, Class of 1951, George Washington University and he furthered his studies at University of Virginia. He was Athletic Director for 20 years at George Marshall High School in Fairfax County; he also was a teacher and coach at Berkley Springs, WV, Osborne High School in Prince William County Public Schools and McLean High School in Fairfax County Public Schools. He retired in 1984 and moved to Harrisonburg in 1988.
