Sean O’Neill - Table Tennis Champion

Since competing in his first US Open Championships in 1976, Sean amassed over 75 national and international titles in the sport of table tennis. He represented the United States in every major world competition including the 1988 and 1992 Olympic games five World Championships, four Pan-American Games and World Cup events. Sean set a record by winning his fifth national junior singles title after his senior year at Marshall.

Sean O'Neill dominated the table tennis event at the US Olympic Sports Festival (formerly National Sports Festival). Participating in each event from 1981 to 1995. O'Neill won an unmatched 18 Gold, 5 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals in the sport of table tennis. He lit the torch along with Sharon Cain of Team Handball in the Opening Ceremonies in San Antonio in 1993.

Sean O'Neill has been an active member of the Athletes Advisory Council for the US Olympic Committee and currently sits on their International Relations Committee. He graduated from George Mason University and currently lives in Charlottesville with his Wife Dr. Elizabeth Le, a 1985 Marshall graduate.

He reminds athletes that you have a responsibility each time you put on a Marshall Uniform, and that you must win in the classroom before stepping onto the playing field.
